Alarming Footage Shows Moment Law Enforcement Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
One senior officer that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver following a road collision in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Officer attacked," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera video shared by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon extended.
He collided with the policeman who lost balance and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his throat and additional cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.
Authorities stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's bleeding prior to medical personnel arrived.
This most recent recognition follows subsequent to the law enforcement team received departmental Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional union branch in early 2024.
They additionally received a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of all three officers ultimately saved themselves and meant no civilians suffered any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, per the department.
