Former Broadcaster Alan Jones Enters Not Guilty to 27 Allegations

The former radio host is confronting 25 charges of indecent acts and two counts of unwanted physical contact relating to nine individuals, following legal authorities disclosed that two individuals would cease to be involved in the legal proceedings.

Court Proceedings

The defendant was set to appear in the local court on that day to respond to 44 counts of inappropriate conduct against 11 different complainants aged 17 and above that age. Yet, the broadcaster was not obliged to attend during the abbreviated hearing at the local courthouse.

The court learned that 17 of the counts were ultimately dropped and two of the individuals were no longer the legal action.

“There has been a substantial change in Mr Jones’s case,” his lawyer his representative told the court.

Defense Pleas

The lawyer stated that the defendant had submitted denials on all of the remaining charges. The trial will move forward in a local court overseen by a magistrate, rather than in the superior court before a jury panel.

Wrench requested an two-month postponement to discuss what he called “ongoing” disclosure concerns, including reported leaks to the media.

He highlighted that additional accusations had emerged on Monday, and journalists were informed quickly after he was notified by the DPP.

Trial Proceedings

The magistrate originally questioned the extent of the requested adjournment but ultimately agreed to the request. The case is scheduled to resume on the eleventh of November, with the main hearing slated for the year 2026.

Officials was told that the legal authorities estimated the hearings would last around 42 days, while the Jones’s lawyer suggested it could take several months.

“We’re not set up to manage a three-month trial,” the judicial officer commented, noting that the matter was a “massive drain on already stretched resources.”

History

The defendant was initially accused with carrying out a range of violations in several settings across the state between two decades ago and 2019.

Authorities formed an investigative unit in early 2024 to examine alleged sexual offenses and sexual touching occurrences involving the broadcaster.

Jones has previously disputed all claims and stated that he was considering legal proceedings against Nine newspapers for what he referred to “baseless” claims.

The defendant was previously in court in December, when it was indicated that he would go through a panel trial.

“I am not guilty, and I will present my argument to a jury,” Jones commented at the earlier date. “You should be aware … these claims are all completely unfounded or they misrepresent the truth.”
