A 14-year-old youth was found dead only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if her son was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's family telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never got that message.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner told the hearing he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his intent."
