UK Military Bases to House Refugee Applicants in Bid to End Hotel Accommodation
Several hundred individuals seeking protection may be housed in military barracks as the authorities seeks to end the reliance of temporary lodging.
Negotiations are ongoing regarding the utilization of two facilities - one in the Scottish region and another in the English south - for accommodation for 900 men.
The Prime Minister has instructed Interior Ministry and Military Ministry officials to speed up work to identify appropriate defense facilities.
The ruling party has pledged to eliminate the operation of asylum hotels, which have consumed substantial taxpayer money and become a primary concern for anti-asylum seeker rallies.
Proposed Defense Facilities
Individuals could be placed in the Cameron Barracks in the Scottish city and Crowborough military training facility in southeastern England by the end of next month.
Commercial facilities, interim housing and previously unused facilities are also being examined for future accommodation.
Government Statements
Authoritative figures stated that every facility would meet health and safety standards.
"The government remains furious at the scale of illegal migrants and temporary hotel accommodations."
"The current leadership will terminate each temporary accommodation facility. Efforts are well underway, with additional appropriate locations being proposed to ease pressure on resident populations and cut asylum costs."
Existing Housing Data
Around 32 thousand asylum seekers are at this time being sheltered in hotel facilities, representing a drop from a peak of more than 56 thousand in the previous year.
A current assessment found that billions of government revenue had been "misused" on migrant shelter.
Previous Military Facility Usage
Two previous defense facilities - MDP Wethersfield in the eastern county and Napier Barracks in Kent - are currently being operated to accommodate individuals seeking protection after being opened under the previous leadership.
The Prime Minister stated on the developments, saying: "We remain committed to shut down every refugee hotel. Words cannot describe how troubled and alarmed I am that we inherited a challenge as big as this by the last government."
